​

  • Walt has done extensive appraisal work throughout the years for attorneys, estate executors, salvors, insurance adjusters, heirs & businesses.

  • He is a certified appraiser who has also been a full-time seller of antiques, jewelry, collectibles, art & personal property since the late 1970s.​

  • All of his report work is in conformity with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice courses (USPAP). ​

  • His career began as a picker, and soon began supplying auction houses with inventory. He then moved on to become the floor manager for Gus Williams of G&E Auctions in Westmoreland, New Hampshire.

  • In 1994 he graduated from the Yankee School of Auctioneering, Concord, NH.

  •  In 1995, Walt began work as a licensed auctioneer in NH, then became licensed in VT and  MA. He later formed Readsboro Auctioneers in Readsboro VT. ​

  • In 2000, he began to put his MA auction license to use in Greenfield and Barre MA, running his own sales as well as working for others in the antiques business.  â€‹

  • In 2002 Walt began working as a consultant and writer on antiques for Worthpoint, an antiques evaluation company.

  • In 2010, Walt formed Cape Ann Auction in Gloucester, MA which he currently owns and operates with his wife Robin and his family. 

  • In 2015 he graduated as a Certified Personal Property Appraiser  from the Missouri Auction School, has maintained the CAGA required standard of excellence and has held certification of the CAGA membership since.

  • He is a graduate and certified appraiser of the Asheford Institute of Antiques.  â€‹

  • Mr. Kolenda does not only appraise, he has and still remains active selling thousands of antiques, works of art, pieces of jewelry, historic documents, books & ephemera, collectibles & personal property.​

  • In  2020 Cape Ann Auction began partnering with Maxsold, an online auction platform.  In 2021 Walt began as a consultant for Maxsold where he worked on reseller recruitment and general auction practices. 

  • He is considered very well rounded in the fields of antiques/collectibles & personal property appraising with strengths in the categories of art, jewelry, ephemera, books, furniture, Americana, & unusual items.
